Team Spotlight Series: Meet Josemar Hebo, Backend Developer
Welcome to another issue of the Team Spotlight series at LayerX đ
In this series, we delve into the stories, experiences, and perspectives of the incredible people that make LayerX. Today, we get to chat with Josemar Hebo, Backend Developer at LayerX, the person responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
Whatâs a day in the life of a web3 Developer at LayerX?
Here's a breakdown of a typical day:Â
First coffee, I call it âProof of Energyâ because itâs the fuel you need to tackle the blockchain.
Check Discord and github notifications, did someone fork your repo at 3 AM? Probably. Did they leave comments in Solidity puns? Definitely.
Start coding, writing smart contracts so clever they could pass the Turing Test⊠or at least avoid a hack.
Head to lunch, You jokingly tell the cashier youâll pay in $TKAI tokens. They smile nervously, unsure if you're serious.
Daily standup meeting, You explain, for the fourth time, why gas fees arenât something HR can help lower đ.
Second coffee, Your mind races with thoughts like, "What if smart contracts could write smart contracts?" and "Why didnât I buy ETH at $10?"
End-of-day review, Realize you've written 20 lines of code and deleted 50, but hey, thatâs progress in web3!
Being a Web3 developer at LayerX is like being in a never-ending hackathon: chaotic, thrilling, and occasionally hilarious. But hey, at least youâre building the future-one block at a time!Â
What do you appreciate most about LayerX's culture?
Collaboration without borders. Everyone gets a say, no matter where theyâre from or what timezone theyâre in. Morning standups could be someoneâs midnight snacks, but we make it work.Â
Innovate, Experiment, Break Things (and Fix Them Fast)Â LayerX encourages fearless tinkering. Want to launch a new smart contract over lunch? Go for it. Accidentally crash the test environment? Congrats, youâve learned something! The culture thrives on a fail-fast, fix-faster mentality.
What are the key factors that make web3 development different?
Web3 development isnât just "Web2 but with blockchain" itâs a whole different game, Decentralization is the name of the game. In Web2, youâre used to centralized servers and databases. In Web3, Instead of trusting a central authority, youâre designing systems where trust is built into the code itself. Translation: Your "backend" is now a chain of immutable blocks, and your "admins" are cryptographic algorithms.
Smart Contracts = Code That Canât Be Taken Back, they are like your applicationâs backend, but thereâs a catch: once deployed, theyâre immutable. This means:
Bugs? Permanent (and expensive).
Testing? Non-negotiable.
Security audits? Your best friend.
What are your favorite web3 projects and why?
I would say TAIKAI, because it's what helped me to expand and consolidate my knowledge about web3, and for the potential it has to become even bigger.
What are your top 3 resources for keeping up with web3 developments?
Ethereumâs Dev Blog; Medium Daily Digest; GitHub Repositories
What tips would you give to a developer starting their web3 journey?
When I was a newbie, I used to watch crash courses of 6 hours length on youtube; then I started solving challenges I found on the internet by implementing mini apps, and on this I hit on few bugs of course, and as Iâm old school, I searched for solutions on stackoverflow forums-like (donât judge me); nowadays people just ask to chat GPT or similar. I think this is a good tip, don't wait to know all about web3 to start developing something, try to create some dApp and learn as you go.
What are your favorite resources for learning development?
Definitely the docs, or github repository of the technology Iâm trying to learn/use, most of them bring very explicit examples. Another resource would be a youtube video. And when Iâm struggling with a bug I go to my old friend stackoverflow (donât judge me, I know you go to chat GPT).
What do you like the most about working in web3?
Working in Web3 is like being part of a sci-fi movie where youâre building the tech of the future, except itâs happening right now, it's reshaping how people think about trust, ownership, and data. Knowing that youâre helping create a decentralized world where individuals can truly own their digital assets is incredibly fulfilling
Anything else you'd like to share with our community?
Keep dreaming big, the web3 potential is limitless, so donât be afraid to experiment, break things, and rebuild them better. The craziest ideas today might be the foundational protocols of tomorrow. Community is everything, this space thrives on collaboration, not competition. Whether youâre a dev, an artist, or just someone curious about tech, your voice matters. Join discussions, contribute to open-source projects, and donât hesitate to ask for help. In Web3, we really are all gonna make it (WAGMI).Â
